RESORT: Suncadia Resort
LOCATION: Cle Elum, Washington
SUBJECT: The Great Room
Resorts these days have done a great job at creating space for guests to sprawl out, enjoy some social time, and cuddle up to a picture window or a roaring fire. Suncadia is no exception. Named "The Great Room", it really is just that. The view enjoyed is that of the sprawling foothills of the North Cascade Range. The chairs are comfortable, the space inviting, and the fireplace welcomes those who spent a little too much time hiking those foothills on a cool fall day.
While the view is stunning, we had to shoot this room on a day where the weather was less than stellar. That meant a dawn shoot - around 6am on a Saturday morning. This way we captured the glow of the sky, but we say a deep blue instead of the gray clouds that were to come. Thinking no one would venture out to the Great Room that early, we were two-thirds finished with the shot when a gentleman decided to read his New York Times on the sofa near the fireplace. Informing him that we needed the space for another ten minutes, he voiced his displeasure as we adamantly apologized.
One of the hazards of shooting public places within the properties - but we always do our best to keep the guests happy!
