The opportunities we have to help make our shots stand out often lie with the decor of the space itself. Lighting and composition are key, but won't make up for the occasional ill-chosen bedspread or questionable art on the wall. We loved the earth tones of this room. Skamania Lodge (Destination Hotels and Resorts) knows this as well as anyone. Their newly appointed rooms were a pleasure to light and photograph.

Nestled along the cliffs in the Columbia River Gorge, this Lodge is anything but rustic. These rooms do play on the theme though, maybe "rustic elegance". They have photos hanging on the wall of Pacific Northwest scenics. The linens and some furniture sport a Native American feel to it, and much of the color palate plays on rustic-type colors.

We pooled the light along the side of the bed, and along the back wall. Also, notice the light we pumped through the area around the back corner. On the ceiling, you notice it the most. That is a visual representation to show the viewer that there is more area to this room around the corner. Without this small lighting detail, the room would seem more closed-in.
