Exterior Hotel Photography

HOTEL: InterContinental

LOCATION: Bugis District, Singapore

SUBJECT: Exterior at Dusk

A fabulous location and a wonderful property, the InterContinental Singapore is a unique landmark in the center of the historic Bugis district, and is Singapore's only Peranakan-inspired luxury hotel. Located along the shophouses of Malay and Malabar Streets, the property provides a modern yet classic element to compliment the perfectly conserved 1920's shophouses.

We shot this exterior in the early evening, with just enough light left over to give us a blue glow in the sky. This is a huge property, and the entrance/turnabout you see pictured is an extremely busy area, regardless of the time of day. This made shooting quite difficult. We didn't mind a few well placed autos in the image - but wanted to stay away from the times where cars were covering much of the turnaround, which was quite often.

We wound up shooting the turnaround area in sections. Often cars would be on the right, but gone near the front door, then in the middle, but not on the right, and so on. Eventually, we were able to get enough images to stitch together to create a fairly empty entry way photograph. We also had severe issues with humidity, as it was a brutally humid evening. The lens had to be removed from the camera body and acclimate to the humidity outside before we could shoot - a process that lasted more than thirty minutes.
