HOTEL: Mayflower Park Hotel
LOCATION: Seattle, Washington
SUBJECT: Queen Suite
Did I mention we just love the Mayflower? While the previous shot was more moody in lighting, we wanted this to be a full daytime shot. The lighting was carefully controlled as always, but more along the lines of controlling exposure zones and not having to rely on pooled lighting for accentuation and separation. Still, you can see the angles have a lot to do with just what you're wanting to show the viewing public. I really liked the lines and curves in the wood above the television. We angled the lighting in a 180 degree manner to the lens and highlighted both the wood and the flat screen television. Had we not done that, it would have been muddled by flat, straight on lighting, and little if any detail would have shown.
To the far right of the image, we threw some light on the wall leading in from the entry to provide depth and information that the room continues. We also pumped light out of the bedroom area so it would spill onto the ceiling and carpet in the mail area, another visual representation of how you can lead the eye of the viewer to provide them with details within the room.
The previous image was more of a "cocktail hour" shot. This looks more noon-ish, so I'll give you another tip if you get to Oliver's at the Mayflower Park Hotel. The burger is massive, and available for lunch and dinner. The chef takes special care - top grade beef, amazingly fresh bun and accompaniments. I know it's Seattle, and seafood is great. But this burger is a hidden gem...
