Interior Hotel Photography – Hotel Deca Lobby

Interior Hotel Photography

HOTEL: Hotel Deca

LOCATION: Seattle, Washington

SUBJECT: Very Cool Lobby

What we have here is a very stylish, well appointed lobby. Its tall ceilings are only one obstacle. And if you notice it's rather deep in its shape, pay particular attention to the huge mirror on the far wall - extending the lobby area to twice its already deep length. After we lit the entire lobby in FRONT of the camera, we had to double back and light all the reverse angles in the mirror. Otherwise, we'd have had a beautifully lit lobby area, with a dark reflection in the mirror.

Also notice the nooks in the wall, specifically the one in the far right corner with the painting of the jazz artist and the blue velvet curtain. Not only was this area set back from the main seating area, it had deep contrasting tones - from the velvet drapes to the dark wood shelving, the off-white walls to the lighting tower fixture. The furniture also had some wear in it, not enough to make it look old, but enough to give the seat areas of the couch and chairs in the foreground some wrinkles which had to be smoothed out in Photoshop.

We loved this place - both its attitude and location were outstanding. The staff was helpful, talkative, and enjoyed pointing out neighborhood features to us, and the location is right in the University District of Seattle, not a stone's throw from the University of Washington's main campus.
