HOTEL: Radisson Fort McDowell Resort
LOCATION: Scottsdale, Arizona
SUBJECT: Junior Suite Guest Room
One of the difficulties in shooting larger guest rooms, particularly suites that have multiple rooms, is to light the interior in an even and effective manner. At the same time, if the light is too even, there's no depth to the image. We try to "shape" the light to the room we're shooting - that is to say we let the space decide how we'll light an specific area.
No pre-conceived lighting patterns, no specific techniques. Find the angle of the hotel room that best tells the story, style the area to balance negative space, and then plan your lighting strategies based on what you see. Many of these images run quite small on the internet, so detailing is often kept to a minimum to avoid a clutter-filled picture when it's run at its smallest.
