SUBJECT: Thien Mu Pagoda

A worker at the Pagoda stands along side the garden with a conical hat. This image stands alone as telling a story without divulging much information. The hat, the warmth of the light - it emphasizes the exotic.

The humidity was oppressive, but the tour of the ancient pagoda was incredible. We met a young buddhist apprentice that explained the rich history of Thien Mu, and showed us around the immaculately grown garden area.

Hue in itself was like the land that time forgot - structures, technology, clothing, all years out of date. Fascinating though, as we had some amazing meals and met very friendly locals who until recently hadn't seen Americans very often. At the time this photo was taken, we had very strict requirements regarding travel in Vietnam, including the need to get a visa prior to arrival, and to have "sponsors" which would claim the validity for your travel. That said, the people we very welcoming, and if you're a fan of pho, you''ll be able to eat very well, very cheaply!
