Hong Kong Panorama

Hospitality Photography

LOCATION: Hong Kong

SUBJECT: Panorama of Downtown

Atop Victoria Peak, we were able to capture an amazing view of Hong Kong, Kowloon, and and Victoria Harbour. This image was a series of 22, hand stitched together in Photoshop. It was an early July evening, and the thick air glowed pink just as the sun dropped over the horizon.

For this trip, we were staying at a truly incredible property, The Peninsula Hong Kong, where we enjoyed one of Hong Kong's great bars - The Felix. In the afternoons we were treated to iced chocolate drinks at The Verandah. The service was impeccable, the architecture stunning. The views from Kowloon across the bay gave us a unique perspective looking out toward Hong Kong.

The city is completely vertical - there is so little land left to build on. Sandwiched between sea and mountains, the buildings reach for the sky, creating a dramatic visual result for a city skyline. Honestly, most urban skylines aren't worth the effort, time, and money to shoot. But Hong Kong has a character all its own, and the elements to pull of a most impressive image.

Hong Kong has one of the most impressive airports in the world, which makes a trip there that much more pleasurable. HKIA (Hong Kong International Airport) replaced Kai Tak Airport in 1998. You might remember seeing visuals of huge passenger planes skimming the rooftops of Hong Kong as they landed - a marvel to see. Too little room for expansion doomed Kai Tak, and a much larger facility at Chek Lap Kok now houses HKIA.
